Grand Ditch is 14 mile long excavation built in the '30's to carry water from the mountains to Ft. Collins, CO.  You climb a trail from  an elevation of around 8,200 ft to an elevation for 11,900 ft.  The trail is an old stagecoach route and does not have any switchbacks, so it's straight up,  We passed through Lu Lu City, a
3 year boom town during the gold rush. It  still has some old log cabins that refuse to give up on the site even if the miners did.  The cabins weren't much after 100 years, but they sure tried their best to attest to the history of the region..
We'd like to thank Kathy, Lee and Dave for inviting us to ride with them that day.  Thanks to Dave, we also got to see a moose with her two nursing calves .  Dave is extremely knowledgeable about the trails in the park and we'd not been able to have such a great ride without his expert guidance.
